Feast of Fish!

True Alexandria is known for it's wide variety of fish.. but in all my years of living here, this was my first time to have such a feast. I'm not expert when it comes tofish names & types, so I can't even translate that this one is called " Singari". With shrimps :) & calimari on the 4 sides. Now, the long things on top of is, I don't know, & I couldn't even try tasting :S

It was HUGE :D

After the cloud, the sun will shine

In amidst all the disturbance that's been going on, one is always astonished by the image of the people, who are not just trying to protect their lives, families and homes... but they spend hours protecting the public properties as well.
Surrounding the Bibliotheca Alexandria, People of all ages , genders and different backgrounds lined up hand in hand forming a human fence to prevent any intruder from taking advantage of the chaos in the city -with not a single security/policeman in sight-.

KEEP HOLDING ON EGYPT
YOU WILL MAKE IT THROUGH

Lotsa letters

I was digging in some of my old stuff, when I found my shoe box of "PenPal Letters". Last time I sent or received a letter was 5 years ago...and then.. I don't know it just stopped. So I was browsing the letters, and looking at the nice things people wrote and sent, from China,Estonia,France,South Africa,Slovakia,Netherland, and then it hit me.. I missed writing penfriend letters!!
I chose to write to my longest correspondant, Taro, from HK,China. I didn't know if her address was still valid, I didn't want to e-mail, so that I won't spoil the surprise and it's been 5 yrs ,so I'm not sure if she'll even know me, or be interested in writting back, so I wrote to her and sent her the letter by the time of her birthday, merrier surprise. :)
3 weeks later, I received a reply! She was thrilled, said she'd stopped snailmail as well, but she did remember me, and that she'd love to resume writing again :) lots have happened in both our lives in those 5 yrs, and it was very interesting to catch up :) Also started with a new correspondant, HeidiLinde from Germany and it's going grt...
There's just something in writing letters and reading other people's handwriting with small doodlings around ,that makes it intimate and nice... no matter where technology takes us,jumping from phones to e-mails, to chatting, and next it's probably telepathy.. I still like the postman leaving me something to physically open and find little surprises within :D

Londonizing Alexandria

And the double decker has finally arrived... well it's been here for almost a year now. I think Alex is the only city that has it in all of Egypt. It has been a big hit when it first came, and everybody wanted to try it, but now.., well it's not THAT popular, due to the ticket cost compared to other means of transportation.
Still, I think it is great to have them.. I just LOVE to watch them.. I try every time I ride it to take the front top seat, never have I found it unoccupied yet :( Won't give up trying!

Headphone Herd

And these are just my personal headphones, plus 1 that is my mum's!! Still my bro & sis has 2 each, but I didn't get hold of them to include in the herd.
Why would someone have all these?? I still don't know, the pc headphones',1 has the mic working but the speakers no, the other one's vice versa, the third which is at the top center is my favourite -no preasure on the ear :)-. Then there's the mobile's original headphone, which malfunctioned so I got another 2, but I didn't throw the original.
I seriously need to get rid of some of these and stop being attached to some cords&wires!

Summer's drifting away

Grilled corn is a major sign saying "Summer's here".
You find the streets, specially the sea side filled with corn stands being grilled on coal and the sparks glittering and scattering all around. The smell also fills the place...
Now, I can hardly find one!! So guess summer is almost over, regardless of the weather, which is still sometimes blazing hot.., like it or not,the academic year starts in two weaks :( !!

Bathroom Tiles:Pick one!

I have a relative who’s living abroad. She asked me to pick up tiles for the bathroom of her apartment that’s over here cuz we’re preparing it for her. So I went yesterday and viewed some tiles, and well here they are... Have any favorites?

Heap of blocks

Today, while I was having my morning walk
on the usual pathway, I met this!!

Giant heap of blocks.

They usually use these to block the violent waves, like the ones embedded between sand and stones, below in the pictures.

But this pile, it made me think of those colourefull kids' blocks where they compete on building the highest tower of blocks:D
Except that these are ugly grey, also they have red numberings on some of them, for some unknown reason.

hmm I wonder what will they do with them?

Maybe they're trying to build a pyramid in Alex too..haha..

Popcorn !!

Had a very bad exam, so I went and made myself a huge bowl of popcorn –which I don’t really like, -but I read somewhere that it’s really healthy and lifts up your mood ….and it worked
Plus I made it in this humongous container – I think they use it for dough making- & I loved the feeling of my entire hand diving in the bowl while I held it snuggly by my other arm… I’m drifting here..

Hibernating

Yes yes,it's that time of year again, hibernating beneath mounts of books, papers, notes. You're in a race with time, and the sand watch infront of you just seems to be slowing down as if there's a barrier that keeps those tiny sand particles from falling smoothly. I keep shaking it..yet it sticks out its tongue to me and moves as slowly as it can possibly be.

Sunbathing

Sunbathing is a right for every creature, and not just human beings. Plus Animals have bones too that needs the sun's vitamin D to activate their calcium uptake.oh oh, I drifted a bit into the scientific blah blah. Ah well, Enjoy your sunbath little kitty :), while I enjoy mine watching you , lay here with no troubles to worry about, while we lay here, to forget the troubles we have to be worrying about.

The Park

The usually deserted park that was the scene of my previous journal post.
That's the path were the tiny feet of Jojo and Ibrahim ran over for about a hundred times or so :)
Most of the time it is vacant as such, I don't know why, even though it's surrounded by vibrant working & studying institutes to where thousands of people go to daily.
Apparently people prefere spending their luch breaks in doors .

Fish Fish all in a dish

My dad doesn't usually go fishing, not as much as many people do anyway whom spend their morning or even entire day fishing. But he did go for a couple of hours, and that was his catch!!
The one with silver fish is obviously the fresh catch, the other is after being fried. Looking at them now, I wonder how come after they've been fried, they've shrunken in number?? hmm the mystery of the lost fish :p

Make a wish?!

They looked like 2 shooting stars to many people who saw this picture. Some didn't even notice that there where 2 white thread-like lines in amidst the sky.
But what they really are, is merely 2 airplanes, that strangely enough were flying that close to each other, or atleast it appears that close from down here.

so, to those who thought they were shooting stars, sorry guys, can't make a wish upon airplanes :D

I wonder though, could shooting stars appear any time & not just at night when the sky is pitch black?!!

I saw a shooting star twice in my life till now, one was around 8:00 pm and one was after midnight...

Cemetery

It’s always a scene that makes me think a lot. Not about a specific thing but life in general. It’s weird though that when I look at the graveyards, I never think about death, but my thoughts wonder about life, the life these people have left behind, the life of their families without them, my life now, my life in years to come..

Lecture!

Interval between lectures, this is not a recent pic. It was the start of the term, even though the pages with writings were increasing at a very high rate.
